Lead Midwife in Perineal Health

Job overview
To ensure continuous development of the specialist midwifery service providing quality care for women who have at some point in their lives sustained perineal/vulval trauma, also to support women who have ongoing bladder, bowel or sexual symptoms post childbirth or female genital trauma.
You will act as a resource within the maternity unit on evidence based perineal, bladder and bowel care.
Take an active role in our acclaimed OASIS service which give’s women who have sustained OASI comprehensive follow up care.
You will be required to perform endoanal ultrasound scan on women following OASI and create individualised care plans for these women.
You will have key roles in providing training in FGM (female genital mutilation) perineal, bladder, and bowel health for midwifery staff and trainee doctors, also providing level three safeguarding training across the on FGM.

Main duties of the job
- Working in the multi-disciplinary team in the OASIS clinic for women who have sustained anal sphincter trauma.
- Support and assess women who have perineal breakdown after second degree perineal trauma and episiotomy breakdown.
- Autonomously manage and deliver the INSPIRE clinic, you will be responsible for the management of women referred to this service
- Maintain high standards of record keeping.
- Provide level three safeguarding training regarding FGM trust
- Counsel and support women who have had FGM
- Maintain National FGM Enhanced Dataset

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Ensure policy and guideline developments are in line with national recommendations, evidence based and reviewed/updated in a timely manner.
- Lead the Inspire (FGM) clinic, responsible for the management of women referred to this clinic. For those women who have sustained FGM you should be a knowledgeable and credible practitioner with expertise in this subject. You should be able to empower, facilitate and support others in personal development and improving their practice through training in relation to FGM issues and continue to enhance the service women receive from inspire clinic.
- Lead the Inspire clinic, responsible for the management of women referred to this clinic
- Undertake deinfibulation for women when necessary.
- You should be able to attend meetings with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to ensure a collaborative approach to the care of women who suffer perineal trauma, ensuring excellent clinical care as well as ensuring psychological services, support and social care.
