Job overview

This role will focus on medicines value across the Trust. Whilst the post will be based within and focus predominantly on Pharmacy practices, there is an expectation that the post holder will engage with colleagues across the Trust and beyond.

The core focus is in achieving best value use of medicines and this role will lead on coordinating the efficient, effective, and timely delivery of value.

The key relationships to this post will be with the Associate Director of Pharmacy, Operations & Technical Lead and Deputy Director of Pharmacy, who in tandem with the post holder will be accountable for the delivery of optimal medicines value.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for optimising medicines value across UHCW.   This will require a highly motivated individual with a desire to succeed.  The right candidate will possess the skills to lead,  manage and develop teams including digital, procurement and outsourced outpatients to achieve maximum  efficiency and value.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Securing optimised Medicines Value across UHCW.
  • Develop annual financial plans and horizon scanning both within UHCW and the wider system.
  • Lead on Waste Reduction Planning (WRP) in conjunction with the Deputy Director of Pharmacy.
  • To provide oversight, leadership and management to the Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution team. 
  • Optimise procurement practices to ensure best value is achieved, provide assurance on framework/contract compliance and the effective practice of off contract claims.
  • To report live the impact of medicines supply changes which could lead to efficiencies or cost pressures.
  • To develop and upkeep live medicines value dashboards which can be demonstrably used both within the pharmacy department and across the wider Trust and system.
  • To provide contract management and support to the outsourced Outpatient Pharmacy services across UHCW.
  • To manage operational performance of the outsourced Outpatient Pharmacy services across UHCW. To assist the Deputy Director of Pharmacy by providing the relevant data and agenda setting for all monthly, quarterly and annual meetings.
  • To review monthly invoicing and assurance of contract utilisation by the outsourced Outpatient Pharmacy provider.
  • To confirm and resolve associated queries, credits and outstanding invoices with the outsourced Outpatient Pharmacy services across UHCW.
  • To provide contract management support for the direct to wards fluid contract supplied by an external provider.
  •  To manage the retention, upkeep and renewal cycles of all Pharmacy-managed SLAs.
  • To proactively engage with Clinical Groups and Senior Pharmacists to identify and articulate medicines value opportunities. In tandem with these stakeholders, to embed an annual horizon scanning cycle for non-High Cost Drugs.
  • To be the lead developer of business cases across the Pharmacy Department.
