Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an exceptional Pharmacy Technician to join our highly valued and skilled Pharmacy Team at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire in a new and exciting role as a Band 6 Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician.

The ideal candidate will be ambitious, self-motivated and organised with excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills. You will be able to work effectively alone and as part of a team and will contribute to the process of service development and innovation by your own initiative and enthusiasm.

The successful post holder will have extensive hospital pharmacy experience with an enthusiasm for working in patient-facing roles.

Main duties of the job

To support the Pharmacy department and wider Trust by providing an Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician service. This role will work to the top of their licence as a key role model for Pharmacy Technicians and their clinical impact on patient outcomes.

This role will be split equally between two functions:

  1. Providing advanced clinical pharmacy technician support across our direct access pathways
  2. Clinical prescription verification in designated areas in line with approved protocols

The Advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician will provide exceptional clinical support to both direct access pathways and specialist services both individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

They will provide senior pharmacy technician support to pharmacy technicians working within clinical ward based services and to those areas which are utilising pharmacy technician clinical prescription validations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To support Medicines Management across all Direct Access Pathways within UHCW
  • To work as part of the clinical pharmacy team to provide a ward-based medicines management pharmacy technician service to include medicines reconciliation, drug history taking, patient counselling, appropriate, timely and accurate supply of medicines including discharge planning, working in accordance with departmental SOPs
  • To undertake clinical verification of oral chemotherapy prescriptions excluding cycle one according to local and national standards following a period of competency-based training and assessment in accordance with local governance processes and policy.
  • To undertake clinical verification of homecare medications excluding initiation prescriptions to local and national standards following a period of competency-based training and assessment in accordance with local governance processes and policy.
