Job overview

The appointee will be required to work with colleagues to deliver and develop Transplant and Dialysis Access Surgery at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

 The consultant staff closely supervise all surgery. By the end of 12 months in post the successful candidate should be able to perform simple access surgery independently and complex access under supervision. They will be expected to develop to perform renal transplants under supervision and should have good understanding of the basic science, immunology, medical therapies, ethics and tissue typing pertinent to renal transplantation.

 

Main duties of the job

·       Work under the supervision of 5 transplant surgeon consultants.

·       Provide inpatient care for acute transplant patients.

·       Attend consultant ward rounds

·       Provide a review service to the renal team and others for surgical complications

·       Assist with outpatient clinics

·      Assist with elective and emergency surgery, developing independence as appropriate.

·       Attend transplant MDT meetings.

·    Participate in the on-call rota on an equal basis with the other transplant fellows to ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out-of-normal working hours

·       Supervise the Junior Fellows and Foundation Doctors in the team.

·       Communicate well with the multidisciplinary team caring for our patients.

·       Participate in audit and governance activities of the department

·     Ensure own practice is up-to-date; this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development and participating in the Trust’s Performance and Annual Review system.

·       Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.

·       Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.
