NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant

Job overview

Interviews will take place on 30th May 2025

The urology department is looking for a well-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their team. This post is designed to recruit a full-time consultant (10PA post) to provide a range of services in Urology (Outpatient, Diagnostic and Operative) including participation in a 1 in 11 on call rota covering the University Hospital site (there are no Urology inpatients at Rugby).

The principal objective of the post would be to reinforce the existing provision for the diagnosis and treatment of urinary stone disease and upper tract malignancy.

University Hospital is a tertiary referral centre and provides a comprehensive urological service.  We serve a population of in excess of 1 million people in Coventry & Warwickshire (in partnership with

George Eliot and South Warwickshire Hospitals). University Hospital is also a designated Trauma

Centre. Its satellite hospital, St Cross Rugby is situated 10 miles east of University Hospital and delivers outpatient and day case urology services.

N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities.

Main duties of the job

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others.  Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.

The job plan will typically comprise of approximately 7.5 direct clinical care programmed activities (PAs) and 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPAs) as outlined in the sample timetable given below which includes on call commitment (1 programmed activity). Opportunities to increase SPA allocation (up to 2.5SPAs) by participating in non-clinical duties such as teaching and research will be discussed at the job plan review six months after the commencement of the appointment.
