Job overview
We are recruiting to an Occupational Therapist (OT) role within the West Midlands Learning Disability and Autism Community Forensic Service.
This service is being developed as a partnership between Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) and Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT).
We are seeking experienced OTs with a background in community and forensic work with adults with learning disabilities and/or autistic adults. Applications are welcome from staff who are currently working at Band 6 level or above.
This is a non-recurrent, two-year project funded via the Reach Out Collaborative, with the contract commencing upon appointment. This post is available as a fixed-term contract or 20-month secondment opportunity for internal applicants.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering specialist OT interventions and supporting recovery-focused outcomes for individuals in secure inpatient services across the region.
Main duties of the job
Key priorities include:
· Delivering the agreed Occupational Therapy responsibilities of the West Midlands Community Forensic LDA service, following relevant protocols and procedures.
· Offering highly-specialist OT support and interventions to service users, families, and carers, across both inpatient and community services.
· Managing an independent caseload while collaborating with other professionals and carers to help service users achieve recovery goals in the context of their learning disability and/or autism, risk profile, and social circumstances.
· Leading OT service developments in line with agreed service priorities and timescales.
· Supervising and managing clinical practice as required, including OT students and other staff working within the clinical area.
· Participating in the West Midlands-wide on-call rota, providing clinical advice and urgent support outside core hours.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will:
Deliver the agreed Occupational Therapist responsibilities of the West Midlands Community Forensic LDA service, following relevant protocols and procedures.
Offer highly-specialist OT support and interventions to families and carers, working across inpatient and community services.
Manage their own caseload and work with other professionals/carers to help service users to reach recovery goals in the context of their LD and/or autism, risk, and social circumstances.
To lead on Occupational Therapy service developments in line with service priorities and timescales, as agreed.
To supervise and manage clinical practice as required, including OT students and other staff working in their clinical area.
The post holder will be supported by the respective organisation’s General Managers, Professional Leads, the Reach Out Collaborative and their current line manager.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Forensic experience in an inpatient and/or community setting
- Experience of working with autistic people and/or people with a learning disability
Desirable criteria
- Experience of partnership and multi agency working
- Ability to communicate information clearly and sensitively
- Able to adapt communication style, both verbal and written, to suit different audiences and ensure clarity and understanding
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant masters level degree (or equivalent KTE gained through experience
- Registered Occupational Therapist with the Health & Care Professions Council
- Documented evidence of CPD in the specialist clinical area.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to deal sensitively with service users with complex needs and varying communication levels, who may also be living in difficult social situations.
- Evidence of clinical assessment skills with reference to Autism and Learning Disability
- Ability to teach service users, relatives and staff

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
