We are offering an exciting development opportunity to join the Speech and Language Therapy team within our Inpatient Learning Disability Service at Brooklands Hospital, Birmingham, as Band 3 Clinical Support Assistant.

Brooklands Hospital is a Specialist Inpatient Service for individuals with a Learning Disability and/or Autism – services on-site include male & female Secure Services, Assessment & Treatment Units and LD CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health). Speech & Language Therapy provision is integral to the Treatment Pathways in each of our services; offering assessment and intervention as appropriate to the needs of the individual as they progress through an Inpatient admission. The successful applicant will provide essential support to the qualified members of the team, with further opportunities to work alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team to facilitate communication and engagement in therapy.  

Applicants should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be confident in using a computer.  

Experience of Inpatient settings is not essential but applicants should demonstrate an awareness and understanding of working  with Learning Disability and/or Autism, with a desire to develop their knowledge and skills in working with this complex and varied client group. 

Main duties of the job

To support patients to maximise their communication potential by developing adapted communication resources and working directly with patients under the guidance of a Speech and Language Therapist. 

To co-facilitate group sessions with SLT and wider Allied Health Professionals team.

To model effective communication strategies across the wards, promoting the use of supportive communication environments.

  • NVQ Level 2 and willingness to work towards NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience of using ICT skills, using Word, databases, AV equipment eg. cameras and projectors.
