Job overview
We are recruiting a Specialist Nurse within the West Midlands Learning Disability and Autism Community Forensic Service.
This service is being developed as a partnership between Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) and Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT).
We are seeking experienced nurses with a background in community and forensic work with adults with learning disabilities and/or autistic adults. Applications are welcome from staff who are currently working at Band 6 level or above.
This is a non-recurrent, two-year project funded via the Reach Out Collaborative, with the contract commencing upon appointment. This post is available as a fixed-term contract or 20-month secondment opportunity for internal applicants.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering specialist nursing care, supporting service development, and ensuring safe and effective clinical delivery across inpatient and community settings.
Main duties of the job
· Working with the clinical lead of the West Midlands Community Forensic LDA service to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
· Collaborating effectively with others to deliver the agreed nursing responsibilities of the West Midlands Community Forensic LDA service.
· Being operationally responsible for healthcare and nursing staff employed in relation to the service, as directed by the clinical lead and operational manager.
· Organising and overseeing the use of physical resources required to run the service.
· Contributing to future developments of offender group treatment programmes and the wider community forensic service.
· Providing teaching and training to staff and other professionals.
· Delivering specialist assessments and consultation across agencies including health, social care, third sector, and probation.
· Coordinating referrals into the service and liaising with relevant commissioners.
· Participating in the West Midlands-wide on-call rota, providing clinical advice and urgent support outside core hours.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD). Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH)
- Post graduate level qualification relating to forensic work e.g. Post graduate certificate in forensic practice, MSc Forensic Psychology, etc.
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of specialist forensic assessments and relevant nursing interventions
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Knowledge and ability to adapt interventions for people with learning disabilities and/or autism
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive post registration clinical experience with offenders with a learning disability and/or autism.
- Experience of undertaking specialist forensic assessments, analysing the resulting information and giving opinion on this.
- Experience of sharing knowledge and skills with staff through formal and informal teaching sessions
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
