To work autonomously as a specialist craftsperson in area of expertise, planning and responding to Planned Preventive Maintenance and emergency calls.

The post requires frequent concentration to diagnose faults and the adaptability to respond to frequent interruptions and deal with unplanned maintenance issues.

Main duties of the job

·      

  • To take responsibility for diagnostic fault finding, problem solving and repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment. To undertake servicing and installation of equipment and systems within the Trust and in other properties maintained by the Maintenance Department, as directed.
  • Participating in the installation of services through small or capital works programs.
  • To set out new work or set up new production appropriate to his/her original trade using relevant instruments and machinery without supervision. This may include the manufacture, assembly, erection and installation of new work using own initiative, experience and judgement. Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to their trade without supervision.
  • To analyse mechanical and electrical problems, taking decisions alone or in conjunction with clinical staff/senior management without reference to own management team.
  • To analyse and diagnose plant problems using Building Management System
  • To undertake condition surveys of equipment and acceptance testing of new equipment.
  • To act as nominated competent person in own specialist trained areas for statutory standards in line with the appropriate HTM standard.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To participate in the Trusts ‘Theatre Checks’ early starts rota and cover absent colleagues, where necessary.
  • Working knowledge of Building Management Systems.
  • Hold or be prepared to accept with relevant training, Competent Person (CP) responsibilities such as Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS), Electrical High/Low Voltage (HV/LV), legionella, Confined Spaces, Working at Height, and any other CP responsibilities that the Department may require.
  • Ability to carry out multi-skilled cross trade working to a high standard.
  • To ensure day-to-day efficient and safe working of all mechanical and electrical plant running across the Trust
  • The post holder must have a sound working knowledge of the following equipment and services.

o   2-Port and 3 Port Heating Systems

o   Domestic Hot Water Systems

o   Cold Water Systems

o   LTHW boilers

o   PHEX & Storage Vessels

o   Calorifiers

o   Single Phase and Three Phase Systems

o   Electrical Generation

o   Nurse Call Systems

o   BMS

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 - Electrical qualification
  • • A proven background within Maintenance or similar industries
  • • Experience / knowledge of electrical maintenance.
  • • Understanding of COSHH regulations
  • • Understanding of Asbestos regulations
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous experience in working within the Healthcare environment.
  • • Experience of driving Transit Van sized vehicle towing a trailer
  • • Additional recognised multi-skilled training course or HNC/HND combining both elements
