Main duties of the job
This is an opportunity to join our skilled, friendly, professional, and caring team, we are looking for an experienced midwife who wants to be part of the exciting future plans within Maternity Department.
The successful candidate will be committed to leading and managing the day to day activity on labour suite whilst ensuring the safety of mothers and their babies. You will be required to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating excellent communication skills and sound knowledge of both low and high risk midwifery. You will act as a professional role model to the wider team, setting examples to all disciplines.
We are a unit who provide personalised care for women, babies and their families ensuring a first class service and experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide a full range of care and health education in a hospital setting performing clinical midwifery duties.
- Act as experienced mentor for less experienced midwives and student midwives.
- Assess the full range of care needs and develop, implement and evaluate provision of care throughout the childbirth period for women and their babies.
- Continuing responsibility for the day to day management of the allocated area, ensuring delivery of high standard of midwifery care through effective management of staff and resources within the service

Qualification and Professional Training
Essential criteria
- Registered midwife
- ENB 997/998 or other qualification in teaching and assessing or equivalent
- Evidence of further professional development relevant to current post
- Evidence of management/leadership training/skills
Desirable criteria
- PMA/ Willing to undertake PMA training
- Evidence of advanced midwifery studies
- Newborn Initial Physical Examination
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Mentorship of student midwives
- Recent labour ward experience
- Experience in all areas of midwifery
- Evidence of advanced leadership skills
- Proven organisational & management skills
- Awareness of changes in the Health Service and the impact on maternity care provision
- Understanding of the PMA role
- Excellent delegation skills
- Counselling skills according to need of individual patient/staff
- Computer literate
Desirable criteria
- Involvement in changes in midwifery care
- Community midwifery experience
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to exercise professional accountability and responsibility
- Demonstrate ability to undertake midwifery competencies e.g. suturing perineums, topping up epidurals (Consultant unit only), IV cannulation, IV administration, venepuncture, CTG interpretation, care of women using hydrotherapy in labour
