Are you looking for a role that offers clinical variety, autonomy and the opportunity to shape the future of Occupational Therapy within General Medicine?
We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our supportive inpatient therapy team, delivering high-quality care across our General Medical wards with opportunities to work alongside our Coronary Care Unit. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Band 5 ready to take the next step, or an established Band 6 looking to broaden their experience within acute medicine.
Alongside a diverse clinical caseload, you'll have opportunities to supervise colleagues and students, contribute to service development and help further develop the Occupational Therapy role within medical specialties.
Main duties of the job

- This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior clinical role whilst helping shape the future of OT within General Medicine. Alongside service development opportunities within the medical specialties, there is scope to further develop the OT contribution to Cardiac Rehabilitation, utilising core OT principles such as pacing, energy conservation, fatigue management and supporting long-term self-management to enhance patient outcomes.
Why Join Us?
- Join a supportive, experienced and collaborative therapy team.
- Play an active role in shaping and developing our services.
- Access excellent CPD and leadership opportunities through our People Development Service.
- Develop specialist clinical skills whilst maintaining a varied and rewarding caseload.
What We're Looking For
- A confident Occupational Therapist with a strong professional identity and understanding of the unique contribution Occupational Therapy brings to acute care.
- Relevant acute experience, or transferable skills that can be applied within this clinical setting.
- Excellent communication, leadership and multidisciplinary working skills.
- A commitment to delivering compassionate, evidence-based and person-centred care.

An ever evolving clinically-led acute service provider we are on a journey to continually provide high quality, safe and responsive services delivered by inspiring, friendly and compassionate staff who share our corporate values which underpin everything we do. Our benefits: On-site nursery, 27 days minimum annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, cycle to work scheme, flexible working, extensive in-house course learning directory, buying and selling of annual leave, subsidised restaurant, tranquillity garden and generous subsidised on-site parking.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will manage a varied caseload across our General Medical inpatient services, supporting patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, including endocrine and cardiac presentations. Working as an autonomous practitioner, you will use your clinical reasoning and core Occupational Therapy skills to assess patients, promote independence, facilitate safe discharge and contribute to positive patient outcomes.
- Alongside your clinical role, you will support the development of junior colleagues, therapy assistants and Occupational Therapy students through supervision, teaching and practice education. You will also have opportunities to contribute to service improvement, quality initiatives and the continued development of the Occupational Therapy role within General Medicine. There is scope to further develop the Occupational Therapy contribution to Cardiac Rehabilitation, building on core Occupational Therapy interventions such as pacing, energy conservation, fatigue management and supporting long-term self-management.
- The role currently operates Monday to Friday; however, as our services continue to evolve, there is an expectation that future developments may include weekend working as part of a seven-day therapy service. Any changes would be introduced through consultation and service planning.
