Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Physiotherapists to join the T&O Team at George Eliot Hospital. We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic candidate with relevant experience and interest in T&O to join a Team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy assistants working across the orthopaedic wards and will involve working closely as part of an MDT.

The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of pathologies associated with Trauma, elective orthopaedic surgery, pre and post operative care  and demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning, knowledge of service development and supervision of junior staff and students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Previous NHS and Experience in the clinical area is essential for the successful candidate.
  • We are looking for a skilled and motivated Specialist Orthopaedic Physiotherapist to join our team, providing expert care in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with traumatic injuries and those on the Elective Orthopaedic pathway, including pre-operative assessments.
  • In this role, you will work independently, managing a specialized clinical caseload with autonomy and as part of a wider MDT.  Key responsibilities include assessing patient needs, delivering targeted treatment plans, and ensuring the highest standards of clinical care.
  • You will also play an essential role in the supervision and teaching of junior therapists and therapy assistants, fostering their growth and supporting professional development. Demonstrating leadership skills, you will contribute actively to service development and the continuous improvement of practice standards.
  • This position requires flexibility, with availability to work across a 7-day schedule as needed. Additionally, you will be part of the respiratory on-call rota, providing vital support to patients when required.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 18months to 2 years post-graduate experience
  • Broad Band 5 rotational experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Previous experience in clinical area
  • Experience in Audits
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Acute NHS experience

Qualification and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy
  • Good standard of general education including GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English grade C and above
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including recent attendance at relevant post-graduate courses
Desirable criteria
  • CSP Membership
  • Involvement /membership in Special Interest Group

  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information
  • Able to prioritise and organise own workload
