The position will be offered on a zero-hour contract basis.

We welcome all healthcare background, however theatre experience in advantageous. 

Main duties of the job

SWFT Clinical Services Limited is seeking a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to work within The Grafton Suite at Stratford Hospital in Stratford-upon-Avon.

We have vacancies for Health Care Assistant posts (Bank), with a range of interests and experience, including ophthalmology and dermatology.

Theatre experience is preferred, and experience of working in a health care environment is essential, to deliver a high standard of nursing care to day patients undergoing surgical or medical treatment

Shifts will usually be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm

SWFT Clinical Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT). The company provides a number of services such as outpatient pharmacy facilities at Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, George Eliot, University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and St Cross (Rugby) hospitals; estates and facilities management at Warwick, Stratford upon Avon and Ellen Badger hospitals, Acorn House and Lillington Health Hub; private patient service and consultancy services to NHS Trusts. 

Subject to the Company and individual’s performance, an annual discretionary bonus will be awarded. 

There is automatic enrolment to the Company pension scheme, with the Company contributing 5%.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To undertake all duties in line with training and instruction provided by the nursing team

Assist at clinics, greeting patients and providing refreshments as required

Assist nursing staff in the preparation and support of patients prior to, during and after clinical activities

Chaperoning and assisting patients to dress/undress as required

Contribute to the effectiveness of the patient journey ensuring that their privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.

To act as a runner and assist the theatre scrub nurse during operations and procedures

To perform ophthalmic testing such as OCT and Visual Field Analysis after suitable training

Assist in maintaining a safe, clean and tidy environment for patient care

Ensure correct collection of clinical waste and appropriate storage prior to disposal

Maintain adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationary in each room

To use patient management system for patient searches as required by consultants and the nursing team

Undertake clerical duties as necessary e.g. reception, notes preparation, adding patient details to patient management system and photocopying to ensure smooth running of the department

To answer phone calls and take messages as required

To work safely at all times in accordance with legislative requirements and clinic policy and procedures

Undertake and receive the appropriate training for specific tasks as delegated by the General Manager or Senior Nurse, whilst continuing to work within company policies and procedures

The post holder will acknowledge their limitations/concerns in relation to any task delegated to them that they do not feel competent to perform

To complete mandatory training on an annual basis

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English
  • CSW care certificate, level 1 minimum

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in healthcare setting (6 months minimum)
