Maintenance Assistant

Due to a re-organisation of the Estates Department there are 2 vacancies for a Maintenance Assistant.

Hours - 37.5 hours per week

£25,158  per annum (spot salary).

Plus 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays and voluntary pension scheme.

The role is Monday- Friday with opportunities for overtime and weekend working

Start and finishing times 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.

The SWFTCS Estates Department provides a comprehensive maintenance repair and installation service of building, grounds, engineering services and associated equipment throughout the SWFT Trust.

Main duties of the job

To work autonomously as an Estates Maintenance Assistant, providing support to the Multi-skilled Supervisor in assisting with responding to Planned Preventive Maintenance and reactive/emergency calls.

The role is predominantly to clean vents, wall wash, Fog and undertake high level cleaning and maintenance.

The post requires frequent concentration to support in the process of diagnosing faults and to be able to adapt to respond to frequent interruptions and deal with unplanned maintenance issues.

The company provides a number of services such as outpatient pharmacy facilities at Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, George Eliot, University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and St Cross (Rugby) hospitals; estates and facilities management at Warwick, Stratford upon Avon and Ellen Badger hospitals, Acorn House and Lillington Health Hub; private patient service and consultancy services to NHS Trusts. 

Subject to the Company and individual’s performance, an annual discretionary bonus will be awarded.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist with the provision of an efficient and cost-effective maintenance and repair service to all properties and equipment owned or leased by the Trust, or company

To undertake such tasks outside of core skills (within the competence of the post holder) to meet service needs as required.

To assist other trades and contractors, in accordance with service need.

To ensure that work is undertaken at all times in accordance with health and Safety requirements to ensure the environment remains safe for patients, staff, contractors and visitors to the Trust.

To promote at all times a positive image of the SWFTCS Estates Department and the wider Trust.

Carry out routine maintenance tasks and minor repair work identified by the maintenance supervisor and or craft staff as being appropriate to the grade and ability of the post holder.

Assist engineering craft staff as required for safety reasons, including work in confined spaces, or on ladders/scaffolding, working at height etc.

Gain a sound working knowledge of the minor work of maintenance assistants in other disciplines as required.

Essential criteria
  • Good level of basic education
  • Willingness to undertake any training as deemed necessary
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical or building trades

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a maintenance environment
  • Experience of working in a Hospital environment
  • Experience within a estates or maintenance role
  • Experience and knowledge of range of procedures for basic testing and repair of estates and maintained equipment
