Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks

Many of the roles we advertise have a requirement for a DBS check to be carried out. If you are successful for a role and it requires a DBS check the Trust will carry out the initial check and subscription to the DBS Update Service, however successful candidates will be expected to cover the associated costs . Details of this will be sent to successful candidates in their offer letter.

Probationary Period

All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working

All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.

The Trust also welcome staff to work flexibly and we would welcome the conversation at interview regarding flexible working.

Job overview

This post will provide further support to the Paediatric Team. You will contribute to the team of Paediatrician providing emergency on call cover services at South Warwickshire Foundation Trust (SWFT). There will be outpatient clinics provided at the Acute Trust. The post holder will be expected to work with the existing team of professional colleagues and managers in the efficient running and development of Paediatric services.

The will also support:

Participate in plans to lead to cost efficiencies across the Department.

Contribute to risk management procedures.

Ensure Continuing Professional Development targets are achieved.

Take part in the revalidation and annual appraisal processes.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will participate in a 1 in 9 on-call rota in the Acute Trust. The Consultant will be on call on a weekday with an expectation of on-site cover to the handover which happens at 9.30pm. This arrangement helps with the evening rush of referrals and will improve the quality of care. The juniors benefit from the added input of a consultant.

Warwickshire is accessible from a number of nearby cities including Birmingham, Leicester, Northampton, Oxford and Worcestershire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post will provide further support to the Paediatric Team. Support the department in meeting the challenging key performance indicators.

Delivery agreed standards of care.

Support delivery of activity targets in partnership with Clinical Commissioning Groups and support service developments, where possible.

Allow flexibility through effective prospective cover.

Provide professional supervision, direction, and training for junior medical staff.

Take an active role in audit, research, teaching, and governance.

Participate in SUDIC investigations and report writing.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with General Medical Council
  • MRCPCH or equivalent obtained through examination.
  • Inclusion in GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics or within 6 months of (CCT)
  • Portfolio Pathway (Formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.
  • Valid BLS (current)
  • APLS Provider (current)
  • NLS Provider (current)
Desirable criteria
  • Further Higher Degree/ Qualification
  • Teaching qualification
  • APLS Instructor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Paediatric Specialty Training
  • Competence in Practical skills in Neonatology
  • Training and experience in general Paediatrics (minimum 3 years at Middle Grade level or equivalent)
  • Neonatal on calls must have been undertaken during part of last 3 years of Paediatric Specialty Training
  • Experience in the management of alleged ‘child abuse’ and working with other agencies to safeguard. children
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Training
  • Ability to resuscitate critically ill children and neonates
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance

Academic Achievement
