Job overview

The Facilities Environmental Assistant will report to the Facilities Supervisor on their site of work. They will work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with the team of Facilities staff to promote and provide the services within Housekeeping, Catering and Portering.


They will hold a multi-skilled role where their key responsibilities will be as follows:
To ensure the environment is cleaned to National standards.
Deliver meal/beverage service
Bed making
Manage linen quality
Report Maintenance issues
Water Flushing
Removal of all waste from area of work
Assist in the preparation and serving of meals for both patients and colleagues
Compliance to Food Hygiene regulations and to comply with HACCP
Assist in the movement of all waste, linen and food which may require the use of electric tug vehicles or Trust vehicles
Site litter picking and ensure external site compounds are kept cleaned an maintained ensuring all waste is segregated as per legislation
Assist with the movement into secure areas of stores deliveries and to deliver items to wards/departments when instructed to do so

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the safe and delivery of the housekeeping/catering services
*Responsible for undertaking scheduled cleaning tasks
*Responsible for upholding all infection Prevention and Control Measures as required within the Trust.
*Responsible for ensuring that all housekeeping consumables are available at all times in the appropriate dispenser/holder.
*Responsible for undertaking ad hoc cleaning tasks as required by the Facilities Supervisor - Housekeeping or nursing staff
*Responsible for undertaking catering tasks as per the work schedule ensuring that all Food Hygiene and Health & Safety legislation is adhered to
*Responsible for ensuring that the day room and dining areas are kept presentable for patients and visitors.
*Responsible for ensuring that there are sufficient ingredients for beverages and condiments at all times
*Responsible for ensuring there are sufficient ward provisions and snack boxes at all times
*Responsible for assisting with the curtain change programme
*Responsible for reporting the need for any estates maintenance request to the housekeeping supervisor

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good basic education – ability to read and write numerical skills
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Qualification or work towards
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 1 in Food Preparation or ability to work toward
  • Qualification in Healthcare Cleaning

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Must have experience of working in a Mental Health/ Learning Disabilities service.
  • Experience of working in a Housekeeping/Catering/Portering Healthcare Service

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Must have a good knowledge of Health & Safety including COSSH, Safe Systems of Cleaning Tasks or to work towards on commencement
  • Ability to follow procedures and manuals
  • An understanding of operational techniques in delivering facilitoes services
  • Must have good knowledge of food hygiene including temperature control and HACCP
Desirable criteria
  • Must have a full knowledge of cleaning
