Consultant Psychiatrist, part time 0.4 WTE Fixed Term 2 years , Psychiatry of Learning Disability, Sandwell

You are invited to join a friendly and motivated Medical team within the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Your post will be based at the Heath lane Hospital, Heath Lane, West Bromwich B71 2BG.

The post will cover community work for adults over 18years with Learning Disabilities in the Black Country (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton) to the North of Birmingham City.  There are one in twelve on call commitments to this post. You will be clinically responsible for patients within your catchment area. You will be part of an established innovative MDT that includes Psychologists, nurses, Allied Health Professionals and support staff. Post will entail opportunities to forensic and other provide reports to the Courts.

Main duties of the job

Provide and support the development of specialist forensic psychiatric services to adults with a learning disability, to help safeguard the wellbeing of vulnerable others, to comply with confidentiality policies and to record activity accurately and comprehensively.

Assess and treat out-patients with a learning disability and co-morbid mental health and behaviour disorders in line with NICE guidance, best practice and Trust policies. Current total work load is 58 outpatients, some who are subject to a conditional discharge and some subject to deprivations of liberty. Patients are reviewed either in their homes or at one of the outpatient settings within the Trust.

Assess and treat out-patients with a learning disability and co-morbid mental illness, autistic spectrum disorders and/or epilepsy.

Support the care of adults with a learning disability by developing strong partnership with other agencies and services, including social care, primary care and voluntary agencies.

Contribute to clinical leadership within the Trust-wide learning disability service, including participating in the governance structures with opportunities to take up medical management roles.
