Fixed Term Consultant in Emergency Medicine

NHS Medical & Dental: Fixed Term Consultant

Job overview

This is a Fixed Term Post to cover maternity leave until 24th of August 2026.

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine, based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) and Princess Royal Hospital (PRH).  This is a rarely available substantive post.

The successful applicant will join a team of dynamic and hardworking consultants who strive to make the departments the best they can be and provide exceptional patient care.  The consultant body consists of a cohesive group which offer a wide range of specialist interests, including Royal college and Training Programme Directors, Trauma leads, Pre-Hospital care and affiliated Medical School and Teaching roles.

RSCH is located on the South Coast in the vibrant town of Brighton, which provides a wide range of facilities and caters for all lifestyles and interests.  There is an exceptional public transport service, and regular trains to and from London.  The innovate rostering system will allow the successful applicant to achieve a good work-life balance and time to explore all the town has to offer.

Consultant team also provides a broad range of non-dcc service including  Medical School teaching, Pre-Hospital care and Major Trauma.

Main duties of the job

The consultant posts at RSCH and PRH encourage hands on management of all patients, ranging from minor injury to Major Trauma and provides an excellent opportunity to put your wide range of skills to the test daily. There is a wide knowledge base amongst the consultant group with significant opportunity to learn new skills and approaches to common problems.

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

 ·         Clinical care to patients on shop floor

·         Supervision of junior doctors, ACPs and ENPs

·         Supervision of the department which includes ensuring timely review of patients.

·         Respond to clinical governance issues

·         Non-clinical duties as determined by job plan

There is a close working relationship between all levels of staff, from the Divisional Director and Acute floor management teams and this post provides a good opportunity to understand the managerial pressures around running a busy department.
