Clinical Fellow ST3+ in GU Medicine
NHS Medical & Dental: Trust registrar
Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Dr interested in the specialty to join the HIV and Integrated Sexual Health teams at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) in Brighton – the UKs first fast track city
This is a 6-month full time post in the Sexual Health/HIV Department at University Hospitals Sussex (UHS) in Brighton from August 2025
The post holder will provide medical care to inpatients in the clinical infection unit at UHS for three days a week and staff the Sexual Health & Contraception outpatient clinics for two days a week. The department currently has a cohort of over 2,400 patients with HIV and sees approximately 34,000 attendances in the fully integrated Sexual health service per year and is a major centre for clinical research in HIV and Sexual Health. This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in this dynamic specialty.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based between the Clinical infection unit (Ward B6 & the Lawson Unit in the Louisa Martindale building) and the SHAC department at The Claude Nicol Clinic both on The Royal Sussex County Hospital site and the Morley St clinic in central Brighton.
The timetable will be flexible and varied. The post holder will be part of the consultant led team caring for patients living with HIV either on the HIV base ward (Ward B6), or as outliers under other teams (typically between 4-12 inpatients in total at any one time). The centre takes referrals from the whole of the Sussex HIV Network.
The services link closely with the Community HIV Specialist Service (CHIVSS) & primary care teams. The team works within a multidisciplinary framework of care and management. There is a pharmacist-led antiretroviral clinic, Newfill service, Women’s Clinic and an AIN service in addition to regular joint clinics held with the Hepatology, Renal, Endocrine, Cardiac, Digestive Diseases, Neurocognitive and Care of the Elderly departments. The service has been running a virtual clinic pathway since 2008.
