Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics - Major Trauma with an interest in Knee.
 
The appointed candidate is expected to perform all aspects of orthopaedic trauma. It is essential that they are able to treat all aspects of trauma around the knee. 
 
The role will cover trauma operating with fracture clinics (including virtual), ward rounds, trauma operating, elective operating and other roles necessary to support the department. Elective surgery is undertaken at the SOTC which is a GIRFT accredited HVLC Hub. The appointee is expected to support the polytrauma and acute knee service.
 
The appointee is expected to be committed to the improvement of quality of clinical care and to participate in incident reporting, risk management and Clinical Unit Governance Meetings which are held every other month. Attendance to such meetings is obligatory outside of mitigating circumstances.
 

Main duties of the job

• Undertaking administrative duties associated with patient care.
• Work and support all members of the clinical team in theatres, clinics and wards.
• Day to day management of patients, liaison with trauma nurse practitioners and participation in meetings.
• Undertake and be up to date with mandatory training.
• Observe the rules and policies together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
• Ensure to maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.
 
The on-call responsibility for this post will include participation in polytrauma rota – 1 in 16 weekdays and 1 in 12 weekends. (3% Category A ).

Experience/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic medical degree
  • FRCSOrth or appropriate specialist qualification or its recognised equivalent.
  • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview. • If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Orthopaedics or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date. • If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree
  • BSc, MSc, MD

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 6 months’ post CCT fellowship experience major trauma
  • Minimum of 6 months post CCT knee surgery.
Desirable criteria
  • 12 months’ post CCT fellowship experience major trauma
  • 12 months post CCT knee surgery
  • Consultant level experience

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
