NHS Medical & Dental: Trust registrar

Job overview

Are you a motivated doctor with a strong interest in medical education, leadership, and shaping the future of the medical workforce?

This is an exciting Leadership and Education Fellowship at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust – a unique role that puts you at the forefront of innovation, education, and workforce development.

You will play a pivotal role in developing education and support structures for Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs) and Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors, helping them on their journey to specialist registration and consultancy.

From designing simulation-based training to developing a digital learning platform, you’ll create practical resources that directly impact professional development and patient care.

This fellowship is an opportunity to gain experience in leadership, educational design, and strategic workforce development – skills that will accelerate your own career.

Main duties of the job

We’re seeking a motivated doctor with experience in medical education, including supervising, appraising, and teaching trainees, students, and healthcare professionals.

The ideal candidate will understand the unique experiences of LED and SAS doctors, be familiar with assessment methods that support learning and development, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, valuing all contributions.

Key responsibilities include:

Resource Development: Create an online CESR/Portfolio Hub with specialty guidance, templates, checklists, and case studies

Education & Simulation: Design and deliver training in leadership, communication, teamwork, and ethics; provide formative assessments and feedback

Mentorship & Peer Support: Build a mentorship network linking LEDs/SAS doctors with consultants or successful CESR applicants and facilitate peer review and reflective practice groups

Workshops & Training: Organise sessions on reflective writing, portfolio building, CESR applications, and QI/Audit mapping

Workforce Planning: Identify CESR/portfolio pathway doctors and collaborate to create opportunities aligned with consultant-level competencies

Policy & Strategy: Draft Trust-level CESR support policy and advocate for its inclusion in job planning and CPD structures
