Main duties of the job

As our Information Governance Lead, you’ll act as a subject matter expert on all matters relating to data protection, confidentiality, security, and governance frameworks. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance / DPO, you’ll lead crucial projects like the Information Asset Register Programme and oversee the Data Security & Protection Toolkit (DSPT) and Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) submissions.

You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that the right people have the right information, at the right time — enabling safe, effective, patient-centred care.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and deliver on information governance strategies, ensuring NHS and legal compliance.

  • Provide expert advice on national and local IG developments.

  • Investigate and manage information governance incidents, breaches and risks.

  • Deliver DPIAs and information sharing agreements with precision.

  • Engage, educate, and train staff at all levels on their IG responsibilities.

  • Deputise for the Head of Information Governance / DPO where required.

  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to embed best IG practices.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Information Governance Lead will support the Trust and external organisations as a subject matter expert reporting directly to the Head of Information Governance / DPO.

An Information Governance Lead is responsible for the delivery of specialist Information Governance advice with a focus on national and local developments to enable compliance with the Data Protection Legislation (Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulations 2016) and in addition, application of the Caldicott Principles along with all associated aspects of confidentiality and security.

 

Lead on the ongoing Information Asset Owner (IAO) / Information Asset Register programme using project management methodology and delivering IAO training.

 

The role is designed to ensure successful completion and delivery of the Cyber Assessment Framework / Data Security & Protection Toolkit and Information Governance Framework in the NHS, both to external customers and internally to SECAmb staff. The post will require travel to other SECAmb and other partner organisation sites if required.

This job helps improve outcomes for patients, service users and populations by: Helping to get the right people with the right information in the right place at the right time to support patients, service users and populations.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of recent experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
Desirable criteria
  • Recent extensive experience in information governance assurance frameworks and delivering to the required standard of quality assurance and audit.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • We require a knowledgeable and self-motivated Information Governance Lead with recent comprehensive knowledge of Information Governance preferably in an NHS environment.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience / qualifications in the Data Protection Act / General Data Protection Regulations and other key information legislation.
  • Experience in communications and stakeholder management
  • A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it
  • The Information Governance Lead must demonstrate that they have solely completed a minimum of 2 Data Security & Protection Toolkits
  • Recent experience in information governance assurance frameworks and delivering to the required standard of quality assurance and audit
