Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Advisor to support the delivery of our EDI priorities and help foster an inclusive and respectful organisational culture.

The EDI Advisor will provide specialist advice and practical support to managers and staff to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion principles are embedded across policies, procedures, and day‑to‑day practice. The role will support the development and delivery of EDI action plans, ensure compliance with relevant legislation (including the Equality Act 2010), and contribute to initiatives that address inequalities and improve employee experience

This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of EDI legislation, best practice and cultural competence, who is confident in providing advice, influencing change, and supporting organisations to create fairer and more inclusive workplaces

Main duties of the job

As an equality, diversity and inclusion subject matter expert, the postholder will work closely with the EDI Manager and EDI Administrator to provide operational support for the delivery of the EDI strategy. Utilising data and insights, they will contribute to the development of EDI, People and Culture plans and strategies

·       Support the development, planning and implementation of EDI actions in line with the EDI strategy.

·       Engage and collaborate with other teams/services across the organisation to embed the values of EDI.

·       Co-ordinate and deliver EDI activity e.g. events, workshops.

·       Supporting Staff Networks with network activity such as events.

Act as a point of contact of enquiries within EDI, dealing with them.

A key focus of this role will be ensuring compliance with the Equality Act 2010, particularly in relation to Reasonable Adjustments for employees with disabilities or long-term health conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role will also act as a key point of contact for staff requiring Reasonable Adjustments, ensuring that appropriate workplace modifications are assessed, recommended, and implemented in a timely manner.

·       Work in collaboration with managers, Occupational Health, HR, and external providers to ensure Reasonable Adjustments are effectively embedded.

 

·       Develop and maintain systems to track and review adjustments, ensuring ongoing effectiveness.

 

·       Provide training and awareness sessions on Reasonable Adjustments and disability inclusion.

 

·       Support service delivery teams in identifying and implementing accessibility improvements for patients and service users.

 

Policy Development & Compliance

 

·        Implements and contributes to the review and development of EDI policies and procedures to ensure they are inclusive and meet legal requirements.

 

Training & Awareness

·       Develop and deliver EDI training sessions and workshops for staff at all levels.

·       Raise awareness of unconscious bias, cultural competency, disability inclusion, and other key EDI topics.

·       Support the development of online resources, toolkits, and guidance documents to enhance EDI knowledge across the organisation.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters or equivalent level of education / proven experience
  • Track record of continuous professional development.
  • Awareness of the Equality Act 2010 particularly in relation to Reasonable Adjustments
  • An understanding of the background and aims of the NHS national people plan
  • Knowledge and experience of methods in qualitative and quantitative review and evaluation of the EDI service
  • Knowledge of Gender Pay Gap (GPG) and Equality Delivery System (EDS)
Desirable criteria
  • CIPD certification
  • Experience of working in an EDI role Knowledge of the NHS or public sector experience
  • Experience of working in an acute provider / Ambulance Trust setting or large multi-faceted organisation
  • Staff Network experience either as an active member or Chair
