Job overview

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Organisation Development & Culture, you’ll lead a small but impactful OD team and act as an internal consultant, delivering innovative, evidence-based, and sustainable organisational development (OD) and culture programmes across our Trust.

You’ll work directly with senior leaders, operational and corporate teams to build leadership capability, improve employee experience, and embed cultural change initiatives that enhance organisational performance and patient care outcomes.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Leading Trust-wide OD and culture transformation programmes.

  • Managing employee engagement and retention initiatives.

  • Delivering leadership and talent development interventions.

  • Facilitating complex team development and culture diagnostics.

  • Championing the NHS People Promise, staff wellbeing and inclusivity.

Main duties of the job

We’re seeking a candidate with:

  • Extensive specialist knowledge in OD principles, organisational culture change, leadership development, and employee engagement.

  • Experience of leading complex OD and cultural transformation initiatives at a senior level.

  • The ability to influence and partner with senior leaders and Executive teams, using expert consultancy skills.

  • Outstanding facilitation, coaching and project management capabilities.

  • A collaborative, compassionate leadership style, aligned to NHS values and SECAmb’s organisational behaviours.

A relevant master’s level qualification (or equivalent experience) is essential, alongside strong working knowledge of the NHS People Plan, NHS People Promise, and the culture challenges facing the health and care sector.

Other than in exceptional circumstances, the starting salary for staff new to the NHS will be the bottom point of the band to which they have been appointed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       To identify, create, and lead OD and Culture Programmes and interventions across the organisation.

·       To lead the provision of an internal OD consultancy service, providing managers and leaders with timely delivery of aligned and consistent highly specialised expertise, advice, coaching and interventions which support the accomplishment of corporate, operational and team objectives, and support leaders in developing individuals and teams, making improvements to morale, organisational culture, employee experience, and organisational performance.

·       To operate as a specialist internal consultant with regards to the provision of tailored team and individual specific interventions which are developed through strong consultancy skills and designed to improve team effectiveness, culture and performance.

·       To triangulate data, proactively identify themes and trends which indicate concerns about culture, leadership, improvement, health and wellbeing or staff engagement.

·       To design and  lead,  an effective exit interview process and service, ensuring high completion rates, enabling the collection of robust and reliable data on employee turnover to inform retention plans and strategies.

·       Identify, design, create, programme manage, lead on, facilitate, and evaluate OD and culture initiatives, interventions, and programmes to improve and support leadership, culture, values, employee experience, retention, recognition, and directorate, team and individual performance as required, to ensure SECAmb has the right people approaches and culture to achieve its strategic plan.

·       To work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to understand national, regional, and organisational OD priorities.

·       Represent the Trust at regional and national OD meetings, forums, and groups.

·       To develop robust relationships with senior colleagues to partner with, influence, challenge on and support improved experience and culture throughout the organisation, if necessary, challenging the status quo to produce improvement.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Masters qualification in human resources, organisational development, organisational design, psychology or related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent level of experience
  • • CIPD qualified
  • • Evidence of recent, ongoing personal development
  • • Project or programme management qualification or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • • Management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • • Recognised coaching qualification
  • • Psychometric test qualification
  • • Accredited 360-degree feedback facilitator

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive expert knowledge of OD principles, theories, models, methodologies and frameworks, and their role in improving organisational performance.
  • • Expert knowledge and understanding of culture change and how to enable it across dispersed organisations.
