We need people with energy, expertise, enthusiasm to help us provide the very best possible specialist NHS mental health and learning disability care. This involves helping us achieve our strategy to improve the quality of life for the communities we serve through People, Prevention and Partnerships.

So what can we offer you in return?

We're an organisation which puts people first. We'll do everything possible to help you feel respected, valued and included. You will also be joining a health and care system committed to working together to do the best we can for the communities we serve. Above all, at Sussex Partnership you'll have the chance to make a difference to the lives of the patients, carers and families across our communities.

As a Trust we are committed in making a difference. Your development is important to us, so don't forget to ask us during interview what opportunities we can offer. We can offer fully funded lifelong learning opportunities such as an apprenticeship from GCSE to Masters level.

If you like the sound of that, then come and join our team.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior Practitioner Psychologist to be part of a supportive and innovative ATS team in Crawley. This role, which will involve taking a senior psychology role in psychology and psychological therapies within the Crawley Assessment and Treatment Team, has become available after our current 8a post holder was promoted within one of the other local North West Sussex ATS teams.

You will join a friendly, highly-skilled and enthusiastic community of psychologists and psychological therapists in North West Sussex. As well as the MDT team, the team comprises of an 8b lead psychologist, two 8a senior psychologists, one CAT therapist, one CBT therapist and two Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners. Our psychological therapists offer specialist assessments and interventions, psychological formulation and team consultation. NW Sussex has also recently led on an initiative to set up compassion-focussed reflective practice groups for staff in each ATS team and compassionate leadership and trauma-informed care are models which are highly valued in the local area.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have skills and experience in supervising other psychologists and psychological therapists, either qualified or in training.  They will also have an interest in supporting colleagues to develop and use psychological thinking in their work and in contributing psychological perspectives to the wider team and service.

Crawley is the West Sussex pilot site for the national strategy to develop neighbourhood mental health services. As part of the Community Transformation innovations there have been a range of working groups and initiatives including embedding co-production at all levels and focussing specifically on reaching underrepresented communities.

Staff wellbeing is of central importance in the trust as a whole and in the North West Sussex Service. Our most recent psychological therapies away day focussed on this, as did our last NWS leadership away day. There is an emphasis on encouraging and supporting our staff to develop, whilst working in psychologically safe environments.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is committed to becoming a diverse employer and inclusive workplace in which people from all backgrounds can belong and pursue enriching careers. We aspire to reflect the communities we serve and, therefore, encourage applications from candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. You can read more about our equality and diversity strategy here.
