RMN Staff Nurse

NHS AfC: Band 5

Come and join us

We’re looking for people who share our values of compassion, accountability and optimism to help us provide high quality care for the patients, carers, families and communities we serve. We specialise in NHS mental health and learning disability services and we’re proud to make a difference every day.

At SPFT we put people first. We’ll do everything possible to help you feel respected, valued and included. You’ll have opportunities to learn, grow and gain new experiences to support your career, with access to lifelong learning and professional development.

We actively promote flexible working and understand how important work life balance is, especially in healthcare. Whether it’s part time hours, hybrid working or flexible start and finish times, we’ll explore what works for you and the role.

We recognise that AI is becoming part of daily life and you may choose to use it to help prepare your application. We welcome innovation but ask that anything you submit reflects your own abilities, experience and voice. AI can support how you describe your skills and experience, but it should never replace your own words as we want to get to know you.

We’re shaping a workplace where ideas are encouraged, technology supports you and everyone has a voice in how we improve. If that sounds like the kind of organisation you want to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.

Job overview

We are seeking a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join us in Heathfield Ward, based at the Department of Psychiatry, Eastbourne. In this role you will join our dedicated team of professionals who are responsible for providing the highest standards of care and support to our patients.

We are a part of The Department of Psychiatry, set alongside Eastbourne's District General Hospital. The Department of Psychiatry has three on-site inpatient wards for adults with mental health problems: Heathfield Ward, Amberley Ward & Bodiam Ward.

We are building a new hospital in Bexhill to replace our inpatient services at the Department of Psychiatry. This means that, if you are successful in your application, you will transfer to the new facility when it opens in late 2026

Main duties of the job

As a Staff Nurse on Heathfield Ward you will be a vital part of our multi-disciplinary team, undertaking assessments of patients with complex mental health needs. Heathfield Ward provides opportunities to deliver patient-centred holistic care, working closely with OT’s, psychologists and doctors in supporting patients in their recovery.

You will be developing care and recovery plans in collaboration with the patients and their families/carers, while regularly assessing, reviewing and managing risk. Acting as a Primary Nurse, you will provide clinical and managerial leadership on the ward, supervising junior staff and trainees, allowing you to develop your skills and experience.

You will experience a high sense of job satisfaction, helping people adjust and recover from acute mental health issues in the later stages of life.

We work flexibly in order to meet the needs of our 24-hour service, to include evenings, nights and weekends. This brings increased pay rates as detailed below

Working for our organisation

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You must be able to deliver a high standard of inpatient nursing care using excellent communication and relationship skills supporting patients, family and carers whilst providing clinical leadership to the team and acting as a primary nurse for patients on the ward.
