Main duties of the job

There is a solid structure for Clinical Psychology within the local team and the wider Trust and you would have the exciting opportunity to contribute to the leadership and development of the psychology team as well as multidisciplinary leadership opportunities. There are also excellent opportunities for supervision of your own clinical practice, training and continued professional development.

Within your role as a 8a Senior Clinical Psychologist you will ensure that quality driven assessments and evidence-based treatments are provided to young people experiencing a range of mental health problems. You will be joining an innovative service and play an integral part in delivering and developing clinical care pathways in line with best practice.

Working for our organisation

You will be part of a strong multidisciplinary team, receive high standards of supervision including secondary supervision packages in CBT, IPT, DBT, EMDR, neurodevelopmental and group work. You will work closely with your Principal Clinical Psychologist, team colleagues and Team Manager. You will also join the Hampshire Psychology group contributing to our innovation and commitment to ongoing service improvement and compassionate care.

Our services build on our CYP-IAPT learning and 'delivering with and delivering well' and we have built the infrastructure to sustain this with our collaborative work with our service users who help shape our transformation with their lived experience. Our Psychology and intern infrastructure support the meaningful use of the service wide outcome measures framework.

Person specification


Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK], including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, approved by the HPC
  • Professional Registration with HCPC


Essential criteria
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
  • Demonstrate specialist experience gained postqualification of working as an applied psychologist with evidence of having received a substantial amount of clinical supervision (normally in the region of approximately 50 hours).
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of the application of applied psychology in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework
  • Knowledge of guidance and legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc)
  • High level of knowledge and skills in neuropsychology and evidence of further practice and/or training since qualification.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HPC

  • Well developed skills in effective communication in a variety of methods of sensitve information.
  • Skills in use of complex methods of assessment, formulation and intervention
  • Can demonstrate support for the values and beliefs of the Care Group and the Trust.
