Job overview
Sussex Family Eating Disorder Service are seeking to recruit a Band 7 Family and Systemic Psychotherapist.
SFEDS works with young people aged 10-18 with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa and their families, to support recovery through Evidence Based Interventions such as Maudsley Family Therapy models, group work, and CBTE.
You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team comprised of; Service Manager, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Clinical Psychology and Assistant Psychology, Systemic Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing staff, Support Workers, Dietitian, and Social Workers with support from our administration team
The Service provides interventions across East & West Sussex and Brighton and Hove. We are moving to a hub and spoke model with Aldrington House, Hove as our hub/ headquarters.
We would welcome a conversation or applications from Family and Systemic Psychotherapists who are currently in training who currently have a core profession and are qualified but registration pending.
This is a substantive post in the team. We will also consider applications from those seeking a secondment opportunity. Please ensure you have approval from your current line manager before applying if you are looking at a secondment.
Main duties of the job
As a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist, you will provide a high quality specialist psychological therapy service, to young people, their families or carers. Undertake assessments, diagnosis and deliver evidence based treatment in accordance with NICE Guidelines, providing family intervention to support the recovery of young people who are suffering from Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.
You will manage a caseload; you will work with our Tier 4 care providers and other internal/ external services who are supporting those open to the service. You will undertake training and support the wider MDT in training and understanding the systemic model and thinking in to their practice.
You will work autonomously and as part of the MDT in delivering a high-quality service in the community whilst supporting the delivery of meeting national standards. You should be organised, motivated and passionate about treating young people and families.
You will be supported by and work closely with the rest of our multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS
In order to be a successful Family and Systemic Psychotherapist in our team you will :
- Have a recognised post graduate qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy or equivalent.
- Have an accreditation in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy with the UKCP.
- Be comfortable in providing intervention and treatment for young people with eating disorders
- Be experienced in working with people presenting with mental health problems
It would also be advantageous if you have:
• Experience within an Eating Disorders team/service
MAIN DUTIES
- To provide specialist therapeutic interventions as part of individualised treatment plans based on psychotherapeutic principles which are grounded in evidence based theory and practice.
- To utilise specialist skills in managing and communicating with patients, their families, carers and other agencies in situations that are sensitive, highly complex and may be emotionally distressing.
- To evaluate and monitor client risk, on an on-going basis and to be responsible for appropriate interventions to jointly manage risk and to inform other agencies as appropriate.
- To facilitate group interventions and deliver individual therapy as required.
- To generate and participate in research within the specialist team.

SPFT has a Flexible Working hours policy which supports staff to balance their work and home life. This must be applied for and discussed with your line manager in accordance with the policy.
All staff are requested to work 60% of their working hours on site.
This is a full time post, part-time hours can be considered – Minimum 22.5 hrs per week.

Essential criteria
- Recognised post graduate qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy or equivalent

Desirable criteria
- Evidence of post qualification training in clinical supervision
Knowledge/Experience

- A high level of competence in applying a psychological therapy to complex difficulties
- Experience of offering teaching, training and supervision
- Experience of working with young people with an eating disorder
- A high-level specialist knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapy
