Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Band 5 or 6 Occupational Therapist/Specialist Occupational Therapist at the West Assessment & Treatment Service (ATS), based at Mill View Hospital. We are a friendly and welcoming multi-disciplinary team, which works with a range of different mental health issues. Based in the culturally diverse and creative city of Brighton and Hove, this is the ideal team in which to grow and develop professionally!

Main duties of the job

We are looking for two Occupational Therapist/Senior Occupational Therapist with experience of working with people with complex mental health conditions in a relevant setting. As part of the role you will be offering your professional input into the multi disciplinary team, by carrying out specific occupational therapy assessments as well as holding a caseload. You will have the role of the vocational champion within the team and supervise an employment specialist who works within the wider team. As part of the Occupational Therapy structure you will receive professional supervision and be able to access regular CPD sessions and training.

Working for our organisation

The service operates Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. The role will involve working from the team base, and across Brighton & Hove as required, with some flexibility around home working, dependent on the needs of the service. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will develop their skills in carrying out assessments, formulating plans and managing a diverse caseload of service users, while maintaining high standards of documentation. The service is looking to appoint somebody who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, creative and resourceful, and who has a passion for working with people and for developing good working relationships with carers. You will have the opportunity to forge close links with the third (voluntary) sector, as well as with other specialist teams within the Trust.

While previous experience of working in the community is desirable, a full training package and an induction to meet your needs will be available. Sussex Partnership believes learning can help make our services safer, more effective and more compassionate. We will consider a band 5 Occupational Therapist with relevant experience and transferable skills to work on your preceptorship, while we support you in the early stages of your career. In those circumstances, you will benefit from working with a capped caseload, which will be varied and interesting, so you have the opportunity to complete high quality work.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy
  • Evidence of post graduate level study/training
  • Registration with the HPC as an occupational therapist
  • Management/Leadership training
  • Training in the use of standardised occupational therapy assessment tools

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health
  • Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems
  • Experience of both group and individual work
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Experience as a Care Coordinator
  • Experience in a clinical area related to the post
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in applying a range of assessment tools and a comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy clinical approaches used in mental health
