Job overview

We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and patient-focused GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician with good communication and team working skills.

Are you passionate about improving the lives of patients with mental health conditions, then a role as a pharmacy technician in our Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Trust could be right for you. Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity for an innovative and skilled clinical pharmacy technician to work as a core member of our Inpatient, community and urgent care teams across Brighton and Hove.    

You should have an interest for working within a specialist mental health service, an understanding of the medicines used and the patients we care for. The role will predominantly be based at Mill View hospital and associated community clinics in Brighton and Hove. 

The post holder will be supported to undertake further accreditations and training as appropriate, allowing your vision for development to grow with the service in a collaborative, holistic and accessible therapeutic environment.

The Pharmacy leadership team is committed to education and training of the pharmacy workforce and will provide access to external training (including the introductory College of Mental Health Pharmacy Psych 1 and Psych 2 programme) for the successful applicant.

The Pharmacy Technician will support the pharmacy service in delivering high quality, safe, efficient, and effective pharmaceutical care to patients across inpatient services, urgent care, and community services within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust).

This role involves assisting Pharmacists, supporting other Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants in medicines optimisation, ensuring compliance with medicines regulations and the Medicines Code, and providing essential support to healthcare professionals and patients.

To support the technical implementation and developments of medicines use across the Trust.

To act as a role model for the provision of pharmacy services across inpatients, urgent care, and community settings to other Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants within the team

 To support point of care blood analysing clozapine service(s) based in the locality.

To ensure that the service is safe, efficient and effective.

To assist in the organisation, development and to participate in the provision of patient medication education to service users and their carers, liaising with staff to identify service users and carers who would benefit from these interventions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We welcome applications from pharmacy technician colleagues.  Previous experience in mental health is desirable however we provide suitable training opportunities for those candidates new to the mental health setting.   

You will be joining a friendly, supportive Pharmacy team which is highly regarded in the Trust. This role represents a great opportunity to start or continue a career in mental health and can lead to more senior roles within mental health pharmacy in the future.

This role is part time and is 18.75 hours per week, there is some flexibility in the working pattern with regards to hours worked per day, start and finish time. There is one notable constraint which the potential applicant should be aware of, the requirement to work on a Monday.

Please note only GPhC registered Pharmacy Technicians will be considered.
