Lead Nurse, West NMHT

NHS AfC: Band 7

Come and join us

We’re looking for people who share our values of compassion, accountability and optimism to help us provide high quality care for the patients, carers, families and communities we serve. We specialise in NHS mental health and learning disability services and we’re proud to make a difference every day.

At SPFT we put people first. We’ll do everything possible to help you feel respected, valued and included. You’ll have opportunities to learn, grow and gain new experiences to support your career, with access to lifelong learning and professional development.

We actively promote flexible working and understand how important work life balance is, especially in healthcare. Whether it’s part time hours, hybrid working or flexible start and finish times, we’ll explore what works for you and the role.

We recognise that AI is becoming part of daily life and you may choose to use it to help prepare your application. We welcome innovation but ask that anything you submit reflects your own abilities, experience and voice. AI can support how you describe your skills and experience, but it should never replace your own words as we want to get to know you.

We’re shaping a workplace where ideas are encouraged, technology supports you and everyone has a voice in how we improve. If that sounds like the kind of organisation you want to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.

Job overview

The West Neighbourhood Mental Health Team (previously known as the West Assessment and Treatment Service), based at Mill View Hospital is a Specialist Secondary Community Mental Health Service, providing multidisciplinary input in the form of Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Support Workers, Consultant Psychiatrists, Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners, and Psychologists/Psychological therapists.

The West NMHT has close working relationships with Early Intervention Services, Specialist Personality Disorder Services, Urgent Care Services, Community Rehabilitation Services and Inpatient/Acute Services. There is also a close connection with our primary care colleagues in the Wellbeing Services (including IAPT) and Third Sector organisations through triage and shared packages of support.  This is being further advanced through the development of the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team Model.

We are looking for an innovative and skilled Band 7 Lead Nurse for the West NMHT. The post holder will show a commitment to developing the clinical team in line with the National Framework for Community Mental Health Services and demonstrate a drive to support the team’s well-being and effectiveness, as well as providing senior nursing leadership to the team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will need to have substantial clinical experience within a community mental health setting, demonstrate leadership acumen and be able to work collaboratively across a range of partners.

You will have a strong sense of team work, be able to demonstrate how you have worked productively within a team and describe the values that matter to you. You will need to embrace the use of performance measures to help to achieve agreed targets and support the team, through supervision arrangements, to provide assurance around care planning, risk assessment and participation.

You will need to have a lot of initiative, creativity, flexibility, a good sense of humour, and to know how to engage with people to bring the best out of them. In return you will be offered comprehensive induction, supervision, access to Coaching and Quality Improvement and the chance to join a friendly and caring team.
