Job overview

This advert is for an exciting CBT 'recruit to train' position in Sussex as part of our transformation of community mental health services.   The post is commissioned to improve access to psychological therapies and will specialise in personality disorder/ complex emotional needs. The successful candidate will be employed on a Band 6 salary for 2 years while studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for Severe Mental Health Problems with Southampton University. The placement will be with the SPFT High Weald Lewes and Havens Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams based in Uckfield and Newhaven. There will also be opportunity to work alongside colleagues in the local specialist personality disorder service, Thinking Well.  

This course is accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) at level two. While on this course you will have not only the academic support, but also be part of our excellent, established and supportive psychological therapy services in Sussex.   After successfully completing the training and applying for practitioner status with the BABCP, you will be guaranteed a post as a Band 7 psychological therapist.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop their mental health expertise and focus on delivering evidence-based therapies to those who need them.

Main duties of the job

While you are training you will be part of a multidisciplinary mental health team providing intervention and support to people with complex needs.  You will be offering cognitive behavioural therapy for the relevant service group: people with complex emotional needs/ personality disorder.  You will work closely with colleagues from psychology and psychological therapies, as well as from other mental health disciplines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. At least 4 years mental health experience

2. Prior experience of delivering CBT interventions in clinical services

3. If applying with a core profession (see list on JD) you will usually have 2 years post qualifying experience

4. If applying with no core profession you will demonstrate equivalence via the KSA which needs to be submitted at point of offer

Essential criteria
  • A core professional qualification (e.g. occupational therapy, Art therapy) and 4 years mental health experience (including 2 years post qualifying experience). Please see below list of core professions
  • Evidence of meeting the Knowledge Skills and Attitude (KSA) requirements of BABCP and 4 years mental health experience
