Job overview

If you enjoy a challenge and want to make a difference to people's lives, this could be for you. We have a vacancy as a Senior Support Worker at the Selden Centre, a specialist inpatient service offering 24hr care for people with learning disabilities based in Worthing.

The post involves being part of a motivated and dedicated team providing support to people with learning disabilities that have mental health issues, autism or challenging behaviour. People who are admitted to the centre will have a detailed treatment and/or intervention plan. The aim is to help people return to the community asap. Our service has been rated as 'Good' by the CQC.

We want someone passionate about people and motivated to help them realise their full potential; someone reliable, flexible, able to work under pressure and enjoy working as part of a team. In return you will gain a great deal of job satisfaction in seeing people develop and move on to better things.

Main duties of the job

- Work with the multi-disciplinary team to establish and deliver a therapeutic programme of care for clients using a person centred approach. Ensuring this is monitored on a daily basis and assist with assessment of clients’ needs and planning and promotion of care delivery 
- Undertake a range of delegated clinical health duties in mental health settings
- Records patients’ information and to work within agreed support plans
- To assist and participate in meaningful opportunities for clients, encouraging interaction within the community where appropriate
- Assist with daily routines, meal preparation, shopping, involving clients where appropriate
- To assist with personal hygiene tasks, and as appropriate encourage self help

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Although training will be given in relevant support skills to be a successful applicant you should have experience of working with people with learning disabilities or mental health issues and preferably have experience of additional complex needs such autism and/or challenging behaviours.
