Main duties of the job

Join our team as a Gastroenterology Specialist! 

As part of this role, you will be responsible for managing patients on an acute Gastroenterology ward, providing support to junior team members. You will also be involved in specialty inreach to the emergency floor and other medical wards, overseeing referrals through bleep and email on a daily basis. Additionally, you will conduct outpatient clinics under consultant supervision, taking charge of reviewing and acting on patient results.

Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to present inpatient cases at the OG/HPB cancer MDT weekly and participate in subsequent ward reviews. Training in diagnostic endoscopy and UGI bleeding will also be provided.

The proposed timetable will be tailored to suit your interests, with a minimum of 4 hours per week dedicated to the job plan. On-call commitments are included in this post, and duties will involve daily ward work, training in endoscopy, organizing meetings, participating in MDTs, providing ward teaching, engaging in audits, and attending departmental education sessions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Clinical Gastroenterologist. In this role, you will be responsible for managing patients on an acute Gastroenterology ward, providing support to junior team members, and offering specialty inreach to the emergency floor and other medical wards.

 

Key responsibilities include holding the referrals bleep, overseeing email referrals on a daily basis, conducting outpatient clinics under consultant supervision, and reviewing and acting on patient results. You will also be expected to present inpatient cases at the OG/HPB cancer MDT on a weekly basis, participate in subsequent ward reviews, and have the opportunity for training in diagnostic endoscopy and UGI bleeding. Experience/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic medical degree
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP, or equivalent
  • Higher degree

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in management of Gastroenterology ward patients
  • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
Desirable criteria
  • Competent to perform ascitic drainage and ascitic taps independently

Organisation and Planning

Essential criteria
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
