Maximum of 1500 characters for entries in the text box (including spaces). We are looking for a Trust Doctor (ST4+ equivalent) to join our Paediatrics team at Worthing Hospital until September 2026 (6 months).
This a full-time/part-time role including participation in a full shift rota system.
The successful candidate will work alongside other team members to provide a full shift rota at middle grade level which will involve acute paediatrics and neonates.
Candidates must have completed foundation training (or equivalent) and have at least 2 further years of Paediatric experience ideally including 6 months in a tertiary neonatal unit. Full MRCPCH should be held or be close to being held.
Candidates must have full registration and a license to practice with the GMC.
Candidates will be expected to work together as a team within the Women and Children’s Group. |
Main duties of the job
Managing children admitted to the Paediatric ward under supervisor of a consultant.
Seeing patients referred to the Paediatrics Assessment unit and providing support and advice to A&E doctors and general practitioners.
Attending resuscitation calls in A&E.
Supervising and supporting tier 1 doctors in patient care in children's ward and assessment unit.
Managing babies on the Neonatal unit under supervision of consultant.
Supervision and supporting tier 1 doctors in patient care for babies on the Neonatal unit and maternity unit.
Attending high risk deliveries on the maternity unit.
Support and teaching of junior medical, nursing staff and medical students.
To engage in Continuing Professional Development and Audit as appropriate.
To engage with the Trust's appraisal and revalidation process.
So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.

Experience/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Basic medical degree
- • Completion or close to completion of MRCPCH or appropriate specialist qualification
- • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- • Advanced Life Support Certificates from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent including - EPALS/APLS - NLS
Desirable criteria
- • Higher Degree relating to paediatrics, education, leadership etc.
Clinical Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- • Foundation programme (or equivalent) plus a minimum of 2 years experience in paediatrics.
- • Neonatal airway skills including tracheal intubation
- • Umbilical Line Insertion
- • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
Desirable criteria
- • 6 months working in a tertiary NICU
- • Cranial Ultrasound
Knowledge
Desirable criteria
- • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty

- • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
