Trust Doctor (ST1+ equivalent) in Paediatrics

NHS Medical & Dental: Trust registrar

Job overview

Two vacancies have arisen for Trust Doctors (ST1 equivalent) in Paediatrics and Neonates based at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust at Worthing Hospital for 6 months to cover deanery vacancies.  The posts are available until 6th September 2026 with the possibility to extend beyond this date dependant on ongoing deanery post fill rate. These are full-time/part-time roles including participation in an annualised rota system.

The roles include day to day care of patients in all Paediatric areas including acute inpatient general paediatric ward, Children’s and Young Persons Day Unit, level 1 Neonatal Unit, Postnatal Ward, Paediatric Outpatient Clinic and Delivery Suite. This provides the ideal grounding in Paediatrics for those considering future applications for paediatric specialty training or other specialty training programmes where a significant proportion of their patient group is comprised of children, e.g. primary care or other paediatric subspecialties.

Main duties of the job

The role involves providing care for general paediatric and neonatal patients, including outpatients, child assessment unit cases, rapid referrals, and attending paediatric and neonatal emergencies, all under consultant and middle‑grade supervision. The post holder is expected to participate in CPD, audit, and the Trust’s appraisal and revalidation processes.

Training and education are key components of the post. The doctor will attend specialist clinics to develop subspecialty skills, contribute to departmental teaching, and may take part in Paediatric Life Support training days and related activities.

The post includes deputising for absent colleagues when required and being available for occasional irregular duties essential to maintaining continuity of patient care.

So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of duties the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
