Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a practitioner psychologist to join our inpatient learning disability service. We are offering this as a full-time Band 7 to 8a development (preceptorship) role, and welcome applications from newly qualifying psychologists. 

The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the Najurally assessment and treatment unit for adults with a learning disability. This is a fast paced and dynamic environment with opportunities to apply a range of psychological skills. There is a committed multi-disciplinary team delivering clinical expertise for patients experiencing acute mental health problems and behaviors that challenge. You will work alongside an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist to deliver psychological assessment, intervention, Positive Behaviour Support, training, staff support and embed trauma-informed practice.  This role offers excellent opportunities for developing skills in consultation, informing and educating, clinical leadership and embedding compassionate, psychologically informed care.  There is a strong emphasis on quality improvement, service development, personal and professional development. 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist evidence based psychological assessment, formulation & therapy, making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, consultation and advice on 
    psychological therapies.
  • Provide clinical consultation and advice to healthcare professionals across all localities.
  • Support adherence to relevant NICE guidance and clinical governance arrangements.
  • To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.
  • Work with the Team/Clinical Manager on service development, leading research and development activities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Doctorate level training in clinical or applied psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical, psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS, or a BPS Statement of Equivalence. OR Specialist post graduate training to masters level or equivalent in a psychotherapeutic modality - including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Systemic Therapy
  • Accreditation from a recognised Psychological Therapy body e.g. BABCP, BACP, UKCP, HCPC via: (a) Professional route; requiring previous mental health qualification e.g. Clin. Psych., RMN, Dip. SW. or (b) where applicable, the KSA (knowledge, skills and attitude) route (e.g. with the BABCP).
Desirable criteria
  • Training in advanced clinical supervision.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
  • Significant experience in relevant area of mental health practise.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or Supervision.
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification experience in learning disabilities

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidenced based psychological therapies relevant to the clinical service.
Desirable criteria
  • Doctoral / master’s level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of wider cultural and religious models of mental health
