Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic pharmacist to work within an innovative and progressive pharmacy department that is committed to improving patient care and patient outcomes. 

The pharmacy department has expanded within recent years following investment in the team and we are looking to continue to improve and develop our team to ensure our patients get the best possible outcomes from their medicines. We are excited to offer this dual role to a dynamic and enthusiastic pharmacist looking to work in a clinical role at the same time as obtaining their PhD. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a enthusiastic and inspirational pharmacist who is committed to optimising the medicines of patients living with mental health problems. You would be joining a progressive pharmacy department which works closely with a range of healthcare professionals. 

This is a rotational post where the successful applicant will rotate between inpatient services and community mental health services gaining a range of experience in specialties such as older peoples mental health, learning disabilities, adult mental health, forensic psychiatry and more. 

Banding is either at Band 6 or 7 depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Pharmacist

You will  provide a  mental health pharmacy service to specialist mental health teams,  outpatient clinics for clozapine, depot antipsychotics and lithium where you will be actively involved in direct patient care.

Successful applicants will integrate within clinical teams as part of the multi-disciplinary approach delivering medicines optimisation including deprescribing and improving processes to reduce risks with medicines especially between different care settings. You will have opportunities to liaise across interfaces of care with other providers. 

Pharmacy Doctoral Training Fellowship

Project title: Integrating pharmacogenomics to support safe and appropriate psychotropic prescribing: a multi-methods approach to exploring the role of mental health pharmacists and developing an implementation support package

This is a fully funded training programme to conduct research into the potential of pharmacogenomic testing to deliver patient benefit in patients with mental health conditions.  

The student will evaluate how pharmacogenomic testing can aid prescribing and deprescribing decisions to improve the care of patients with mental health conditions.  The doctoral training fellowship is a result of partnership between the University of Bradford, NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration and Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The PhD student will be based in the Medicines Optimisation group within the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at the University of Bradford and will also work for one day per week as a pharmacist in Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.  The PhD has a supervisory team from all partners.  The student will be directly involved in patient-facing applied health research, for example through conducting patient and clinician interviews.  The student will benefit from working within a thriving multidisciplinary research group delivering innovation and excellence in Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Practice research for patient benefit.  This project is supported by a major national research centre, the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration, which allows broader networking with other PhD students, researchers and academics nationally. 

The PhD position is for a UK-registered pharmacist. Applicants who are General Pharmaceutical Council registered pharmacists will continue to practice clinically at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust up to 0.2 WTE paid.   The PhD studentship is full time and is funded for three years and 3 months (fixed term).  The student will receive a stipend (£19,795 p.a., that is exempt from income tax and increases slightly annually in line with UKRI funded stipends). 

Must be a fully-qualified Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, and meet residency requirements to qualify for Home (UK) tuition fees.
