As part of our stroke pathway development, we are excited to offer a rare opportunity for motivated individuals to train to become a Therapy Assistant Practitioner within our Stroke rehabilitation teams. We are looking for someone with experience of health and social care, who can work independently within scope, using their own initiative, with excellent communication and organisational skills, who is looking to further develop their skills in rehabilitation.
This is a fixed term, apprenticeship post. The post holder/s will be required to undertake a 2 year higher apprenticeship as part of this position, during which you will learn all the skills needed to become a Therapy Assistant Practitioner.
Candidates with existing degrees in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy are not eligible to apply.
You will work as part of a supportive, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team, delivering high quality rehabilitation across the stroke pathway.
We have posts in both the Community Stroke Therapy team and the Inpatient stroke and neurology therapy team. You will learn alongside Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in the workplace, as well as the wider MDT, to improve the physical, cognitive and functional ability, mood and well-being of patients.
Main duties of the job
New to the NHS: If you are joining the NHS for the first time, you will be paid at the Apprentice Rate, which is currently £7.55 per hour (from April 2025) for the first year of your apprenticeship. After the first year, you will be paid the age-related National Minimum Wage for the remainder of your fixed-term contract.
Existing NHS Employees: If you already have NHS experience, your pay will be determined in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. This means you will receive a percentage of the relevant pay band for the role, reflective of your current qualifications and experience.
- The jobholder will be employed in a 2-year degree apprenticeship within the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT).
- Academic study will make up 20%, this can be undertaken in person or virtually. The remaining 80% will be spent in the workplace. During the apprenticeship the post holder will perform all of the elements in this job description as a learner and under the direct and/or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner
- A clean British driving licence is essential as is access to a car with business class insurance (reasonable adjustments will be made as needed).
- There may be a requirement for the post holder to work flexibly in other areas as required, including different hospital sites and community settings including domiciliary visits. The post may involve working across 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays.

Essential criteria
- Recent NHS experience
- Therapy Assistant experience in an NHS Setting/ equivalent experience.
- Evidence to demonstrate own learning and support experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of carrying out assessments and/or therapeutic interventions with people in an acute hospital setting and/or community setting.
- Experience of assisting in the therapy provision for patients with complex and /or progressive conditions.
- Experience of lone working in the community setting
- Experience of practical training/supervision/appraisal and development of Band 2 therapy assistants
- Experience of data collection for audit as directed by qualified therapists
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good organisational and time management skills. Including caseload management of a delegated caseload.
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Competency in core Therapy Assistant skills
- Team player, flexible, adaptable
- Be able to work effectively alongside all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

- GCSE Maths and English Grade 4-9 or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 study in Care or evidence of level 3 study or evidence of extensive clinical experience in a health and social care
Desirable criteria
- Courses with relevance to the job role.
