The postholder will participate in the YAIS multi-disciplinary team including the line management of the rehabilitation team which consists of Rehabilitation support workers, Speech and Language Therapists and Teachers of the Deaf who work with children and adults. 

The role also includes supporting a caseload of babies, children and young people with severe to profound hearing loss from initial referral for cochlear implant assessment through to subsequent rehabilitation within Yorkshire and surrounding areas.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or Speech & Language Therapist
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of line management
  • Experience of working with deaf/hearing impaired babies and children, of different age groups from a range of backgrounds, who may have complex needs additional to their deafness
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research and / or service development
  • Experience in the teaching / training of others

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to motivate, effectively influence, manage conflict, remain calm.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritise workload and work calmly under pressure or in difficult and uncertain situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to include ability to adapt communication to accommodate barriers to understanding
  • Excellent organisational skills. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly
  • Ability to work and cope with unpredictable situations
  • Excellent IT and presentation skills including PowerPoint

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with Certificate to Practice recognised by the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists OR A degree with a Diploma in Education and Certificate in Education of the Deaf
  • HCPC Registration OR Registration with the British Association of Teachers of the Deaf
  • Postgraduate training / qualification in leadership/management
Desirable criteria
  • CACDP Stage 1
