Bradford Maternity services aspires to be outstanding, to provide excellent care, experience, services and staff development. We have a 12 month opportunity for a Community Midwifery Manager to manage our existing community midwifery teams . We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking experienced midwife to lead and develop services and people towards excellence in providing midwifery care in the community context.

Main duties of the job

To provide expert clinical advice in relation to the education, management and leadership of teams of midwives and support staff

To lead, manage and co-ordinate staff and activity within the community teams

To empower and enable midwives to advocate for women in relation to birth choices, complex birth and personalised care planning.

To provide expert intrapartum care and advice in relation to home births

To lead on the development, planning and future implementation of services in line with recent government drivers and local recommendations and initiatives.

To provide support to the community managers and provide cross cover when required

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Professional and leadership responsibilities : will be working as a key member of a multi-professional team and will display excellent communication and leadership skills

Managerial responsibilities: to support, direct and have responsibility for activity, staff cover and skill mix in community teams to ensure safe and effective service provision

Communication: to establish robust communication mechanisms with teams via meetings, appraisals and probationary reviews

Quality assurance: to promote an environment of continuous learning and improvement

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of leadership and influencing skills with the ability to motivate and involve individuals, teams and system partners
  • High level of organisational skills, self-motivation, drive for performance and quality improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working as a Registered Midwife in a wide range of settings
  • Experience of facilitating teaching and training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with people management in relation to appraisal performance, recruitment and selection process
  • Good understanding and experience of assurance processes/audit/change management

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of the risk and governance agenda within maternity, including learning from incidents

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration
  • First Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience gained in a relevant environment
  • Teaching Qualification (997/SLIPS or equivalent)
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous learning and application in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Leadership Qualification or equivalent experience
  • A Masters level qualification in relevant subject or evidence of equivalent knowledge or working towards qualification
