BTHFT are looking to recruit a Senior Multi-Skilled Technician. 

You will need to work closely with the Team Leaders to plan and carry out engineering/building maintenance programmes and to help achieve compliance with legislative and performance standards. You will be required to undertake work as identified on allocated work orders, such as carrying out inspections, tests, repairs and installations on Trust property, plant and infrastructure. You will also need to update the Trust CAFM system in an informative and timely manner.

Heavily involved in the day-to-reactive maintenance service, you will need to ensure that we are providing an efficient and patient focused service to the Trust. You will need to possess strong team working traits, be flexible, calm under pressure and have excellent communication skills to effectively carry out demanding maintenance duties and investigative processes.

 As part of the role you will be required to cover the shift technicians role should unplanned staff shortages occur during times of operational service pressure.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to carry out both routine and complex maintenance requests in an efficient and effective manner to support successful delivery of a customer focussed estate maintenance service for the Trust and support the Team Leaders in the management and supervision of in house and contract labour to ensure effective maintenance and operation of all buildings, plant and associated services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Competent in the use of computers (including Microsoft Office) in order to interrogate the Building Management System (BMS)
  • Previously worked within a maintenance environment
  • Have an understanding of the operational procedures and safe working practices of major items of plant and systems such as: - Steam raising plant & associated systems. - Steam and condense systems. - Heating and domestic water services. - Ventilation plant and associated systems inc refridgeration & chiller units) - Low voltage electrical distribution system and switchgear. - Emergency standby generating plant. - Fire alarm and detection systems. - Lighting systems (including emergency lighting.) - Lifts. - Nurse call system.
  • Manage / co-ordinate the above as AP (or be working towards AP status with relevant training and experience) holding the delegated responsibility to supervise and monitor work carried out by others and manage interruptions to the system.
  • Willingness to work both inside & outside in all weather conditions.
  • Have an awareness of the operational procedures and safe working practices of major items of plant and systems, such as: - Gas distribution system. - Sterilisation and decontamination equipment. - Medical gas pipeline system and associated plant. - Diesel Oil systems. - Building Management System (BMS) - Security System.
  • Experience must cover engineering and building techniques
  • Experience of direct management of qualified labour force
  • Experienced in risk management, including undertaking audits, risk assessments, method statements, undertaking authorised persons duties and issuing/managing permit to work systems
  • Knowledge and experience of health & safety

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as a team player or on own initiative.
  • Prepared to work rostered shifts which ensures 24 hour on site cover by the Shift Technician Team.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to formulate solutions to improve performance, selection of suitable equipment and/or parts to repair plant, equipment and buildings..
  • Demonstrate continual professional development and willing to undertake occupational training courses in order to fulfil and develop the duties of the post .

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Must have completed a recognised electrical or mechanical apprenticeship such as EITB, CITB or similar, approved apprenticeship scheme
  • City & Guilds – Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Must have completed an appropriate multi-skilling course to City & Guilds level or equivalent, or must have appropriate multi-skilling experience.
  • Formal training, ideally in an engineering discipline to HNC/HND level, or commensurate level of experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Hold a current driving licence
