Main duties of the job

We are looking to expand our Continuing Professional Development team with an Associate Educator. This is a role for an experienced and knowledgeable Health Care Support Worker or Nursing Associate who wishes to develop and expand their knowledge, skills and expertise in Education and Training. The role will involve teaching on the Health Care Assistant induction, supporting new staff to complete the Care Certificate and manage competence and compliance of clinical skills. You will provide excellent pastoral and clinical support for new staff and be passionate about supporting and teaching others to ensure high quality patient care is provided.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent, relevant clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting
  • Experience of teaching / on a 1:1 basis or in a group setting or/and evidence of learning a clinical skill / using this skill in practice
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and life-long learning
  • Evidence of working with evidence-based practice
  • Evidence of team working
  • Demonstrable evidence of facilitating training/teaching staff and/or patients/ sharing knowledge within the ward area and department area and/or experience supporting and teaching new or junior staff
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the role of being a Key Trainer
  • Competent and confident to represent Education and Training

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers (2013).
  • Knowledge of the 15 Care Certificate standards
  • Ability to deliver training presentations to inform and influence staff in best practice, ability to present complex information clearly during teaching sessions
  • Evidence of working to deadlines
  • IT skills – able to use word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, email and internet
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Clinical Areas
  • Ability to problem solve and manage change along with the ability to engage and motivate people
  • Understands the limits of the job role. Has the knowledge to recognise situations that require reporting and demonstrates the ability to escalate to a senior person where appropriate.
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients and colleagues.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of HCSW career development opportunities and pathway
  • Ability to provide information, advice and guidance on career development

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Functional Skills Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English
  • NVQ/QCF/Diploma Level 3 in Care/Health/Health and Social Care or equivalent Healthcare qualification
  • Completed the Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Nursing Associate in Adult Health and Social Care
  • Assessor for Care Certificate
  • Willingness to work towards Level 3 Award in Education and Training (teaching) qualification
