The Estates & Facilities Directorate require a Health & Safety Advisor to act in an advisory and supportive capacity to Estates and Facilities Managers (Excluding Capital Projects) and staff on Health & Safety legislation, the identification of workplace hazards, appraisal of Estates & Facilities Health and Safety risk, advising on effective control measures and monitoring performance.

Main duties of the job

To work with Estates and Facilities colleagues who specialise in specific aspects of  Health & Safety legislation relating to the Estates and Facilities activities and services, so as to co-ordinate and develop policy, procedure and safe working practice.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post holder must have significant experience and working knowledge of general health and safety standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of health & safety legislation & regulations appropriate to the Estate.
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments
  • Experience of managing a large workload without supervision
  • Experience of working under pressure, meeting deadlines and ability to manage own workload
  • Experience of delivering training to staff groups and individuals.
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital or healthcare environment.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills, with both groups & individuals
  • Computer literate including ability to use Microsoft Office
  • Able to undertake & provide advice on completing appropriate risk assessments
  • Able to set up monitoring systems and databases to ensure oversight of risk assessments and risk incident investigations
  • Ability to undertake investigations in line with Health & Safety regulations, following an incident, ensuring communication with all relevant parties, and providing appropriate reports and feedback
  • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding and application of health and safety legislation (statutory, implied and best practice) within an acute healthcare setting
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and present data associated with health and safety management in both written and presentation format.
