Job overview
The job holder will provide administrative support for the Haematology service to the Consultants, Registrar’s and secretarial team.
The job holder will deal with telephone calls, enquiries from the public, staff, and other Health Care Providers, ensuring that they are dealt with accurately, in a timely, polite and courteous manner.
The job holder will have extensive involvement with the team to ensure that patients are treated in accordance with the Trust’s policy and procedures.
The job holder will be expected to contribute to the daily delivery of the service by ensuring all tasks required by the Medical Secretary/Team Coordinator are completed in as timely and efficient manner as possible.
It is expected that the job holder will contribute to the development of efficient and lean processes to ensure an efficient service.
Main duties of the job
The main purpose of the job is to provide assistance to the Team Coordinator and Secretarial colleagues and to provide a comprehensive administrative service to the Haematology Team.
The role will include dealing with telephone calls, e-mails and face to face contact with Trust Staff, ensuring enquiries are dealt with in an efficient, polite and courteous manner and providing advice when deemed appropriate or relaying clear messages to relevant members of the team.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Working experience/knowledge of computers, data input and word processing
- Previous clerical experience in an administrative setting
- Experience of working face to face and/or telephone contact with the general public
- Experience of offering suggestions for improving own or team working practices.
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience
Knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Patient Administration System (or equivalent system)
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard (or equivalent) *
