We have an opportunity for a motivated, forward thinking and dynamic physiotherapist to join the Hand Therapy Team. Working alongside the MDT you will be responsible for the specialist Hand Therapy for Plastic's Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedic Hand conditions.

The post holder will be based within a therapy team in outpatient settings and MDT clinics.

This role will offer the post holder the opportunity to work as part of an integrated Hand Service including Consultants, Nurses and other Therapists. Referrals come from Surgeons,  Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedics and Primary Care.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the delivery of  highly specialised Hand Therapy to support patients with a variety of complex hand conditions. The successful applicant will be given support and training to meet development needs.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake complex clinical duties and use advanced practices, procedures and interventions safely within the current legislative framework.
  • The post integrates expert clinical practice, training and education, strategic planning and service development along with research and audit activity. 
  • To act as a source of specialist advice and expertise in the physiotherapeutic management of Hand conditions and provide advisory service to patients, other therapists, GP, consultants and other  professionals.  
  • To work multi-professionally for efficient and effective patient care, including attending MDT meetings around patients with Hand conditions
  • The post holder will be required to work as a specialist and provide advanced assessment and treatment of patients with complex. The post holder will have responsibility for participating in education of qualified staff including post graduate physiotherapists to master level study, GPs, medical staff and other health and professionals. The post holder will work closely with Consultants, and GPs.
  • The post holder will undertake projects and contribute to the planning of Hand Service developments as required.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post graduate experience in MSK Physiotherapy
  • Recent experience in the NHS.
  • Previous Extended scope experience
  • Significant experience working at Band 7/6 or equivalent grade working with Hand conditions including post-surgical cases in orthopaedics/Rheumatology/plastics.
  • Experience of working as a first line practitioner.
  • Experience of referring for investigations including x-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound, and EMG studies.
  • Experience in training staff of all levels including medical and other health professionals
  • Experience working with medical colleagues
  • Experience of using research and other evidence to inform practice
  • Experience in Thermoplastic splinting/casting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in undertaking joint or soft tissue injections

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced skills in Hand physiotherapy practice.
  • Advanced skills in splinting
  • IRMER

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Attendance on external postgraduate courses relevant to the specialist field of Hands eg. BAHT level 1-3 or equivalent
  • Possession of/ working towards MSc or equivalent.
  • Competent IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Member of SIG

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Physiotherapy Studies or equivalent
  • Working towards or in possession of relevant MSc or beyond.
  • Extensive post graduate training in musculoskeletal hand conditions
  • MSc or equivalent experience
  • HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical interpretation of the results of investigations - IRMER
  • Injection Therapy Qualification
