An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Women’s Services Maternity Administration Team in the role of Patient Administration Clerk working within the Women and Newborn Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary. The post is 23.5 hours per week., working 3 days: Thursday 08.30 - 17.00, Friday 11.00 - 20.00 and Sunday 08.30 - 16.00 , all inclusive of 30 minute break.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly, covering occasional Saturdays or Sundays on a rotational basis to cover sickness and annual leave.
You will have a high standard of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels. Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification for further details.

Main duties of the job
- To assist colleagues with workload, providing administrative support relating to the Consultants, Midwives, Nursing staff, and their teams
- Provide Reception cover and effectively communicate with patients, visitors and staff face to face.
- To input clinical/administrative data such as referrals, booking outpatient appointments, and entering inpatient activity
- Works in close liaison with secretaries and assists in the smooth running of the department to undertake other clerical duties as delegated by the colleagues as and when required.
- Cover for colleagues during periods of sickness, annual leave or training which may include management of own workload when necessary for short periods of time throughout the year (with support and guidance from seniors when required).
- Required to receive and manage telephone and personal enquiries, often of a sensitive nature in a constructive and sympathetic manner, referring to the appropriate person where necessary and rerouting these calls when required.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Working experience/knowledge of computers & data input
- Previous clerical experience in an administrative setting
- Experience of working face to face and/or telephone contact with the general public
- Experience in use of computer programs such as, Microsoft Office , Excel
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS administration experience
Skills
Essential criteria
- Keyboard Skills/use of email
- Good telephone manner and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
- Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff

- Previous knowledge of NHS Admin/medical records experience

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- NVQ level 2 administration or above
- RSA II or equivalent level of skill gained through experience
Other Requirements
Essential criteria
- Flexibility to work in hospital or community setting
- Flexibility with working patterns in keeping with a 24 hour service
