An exciting opportunity has arisen a Specialty Doctor  in Oral surgery/OMFS.

This Trust  position offers good scope for obtaining surgical experience along with  further training within a supportive environment. The post includes  a 1 in 6 second on call commitment with rota enhancements.

The service has  is a strong team of consultants who provide the full breadth of OMFS surgery and this is complemented by a Consultant in Restorative dentistry providing rehabilitation and advanced restorative management of the surgical patients. There is also an active cohort of Consultant Orthodontists and there is collaborative multidisciplinary working across all the specialties. The post holder will be an integral part of this team and be able to gain experience within the full scope of departmental work. Additionally, the department has an active research profile & the successful applicants will be encouraged to partake in research, audit and teaching.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be part of a team of OMFS team who will be tasked with delivering the OMFS service to Bradford and the surrounding areas, and will have responsibility for diagnosis and treatment of patients at the hospitals and clinics at which you have duties

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

             

• The post-holder will be responsible for the continuing treatment of patients under their care

• The post-holder will be expected to be responsible for personal performance of duties as agreed in the formal job plan

• The post-holder will be expected to demonstrate commitment to the Trust’s clinical governance and risk strategy, and adhere to all Trust Policies and Procedures

• The post-holder will be expected to uphold standards and ensure these are developed through methods such as audit, evidence-based research and appraisal

• The post-holder will be expected to work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the agreed planned activity for the service

• The post-holder should ensure that new techniques (outside ethically approved research projects) are only introduced after appropriate training, with approval of the relevant clinical directorates and with arrangements for evaluation and an audit trail.

• Any other duties necessary for the successful performance of the role, commensurate with the grade.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience relevant to the specialty
  • Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practise safely Commitment for managing professional development
  • Clinical governance / audit experience
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
  • Out of hours experience relevant to job.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the specialty beyond ST3 or equivalent

  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: - that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or - have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application – Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7. IELTS certificate to be presented at interview. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality

  • Acute care safe – up to date ALS
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge
  • Essential specialty specific competencies for the post should be listed along with required evidence.
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist Knowledge Exam
  • ALS Instructors Certificate

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BDS or equivalent dental qualification
  • Eligible for registration with the GDC at time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
  • Specialty specific requirements eg MFDS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of achievement of DCT2 / DCT3 competencies in the specialty at time of application.
