Detailed job description and main responsibilities

In November 2023 Children’s Services went through a transformational change with the merging of nursing teams across the Paediatric Emergency Department and the Children and Young People’s Unit.

The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to work across all areas but your base will Children's Urgent Care (ED/CCDA/Short Stay).

Children’s Emergency Department (ED)

Children’s ED is a busy department who currently see large volumes of children every year in an area specifically dedicated to children. Children who are attending with urgent care complaints are streamed straight to this area.

Children’s Clinical Decision Area (CCDA) and Short Stay

The Children’s Decision Area sees children referred from GPs, children with direct access and children sent from ED requiring a further assessment. The short stay area is for children who require a prolonged period of observation but who are unlikely to need a full admission to hospital, this could include fluid challenges, spacing of inhalers and review by other specialities.

Ward 30 (Children’s Inpatient Unit)

Ward 30 is a Children’s Inpatient Unit that was purpose built in 2016. The unit includes 35 inpatient beds and a two-bedded stabilisation area. The ward has an adolescent room, school room, play room, and an accessible bathroom. Each bed space also has state of the art bedside monitoring.
