A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join BTHFT’s Portering team as a Resource Allocator. This is a new full-time position working closely with the Porters, Team Leaders and Senior Supervisor to effectively deliver the Portering service, supporting in the delivery of a first class, patient focused service.

The successful candidate will use the data captured within CapMan (task management system) to ensure appropriate Portering resource is allocated effectively in real-time to support improved best use of resource, improved response times, service improvement and patient flow.

  • You will have experience of working with a task management or planning system and experience of rotas
  • You will have excellent organisation, prioritisation and analytical skills
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be able to provide a professional customer focussed service within resource.
  • You will be able to work collaboratively across the Portering and stakeholder teams.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to changing demands
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages; Word, Excel & MS Office.

Main duties of the job

  • Allocate the work for each shift and plan work effectively through consistent monitoring of the portering element of the CapMan system.
  • Ensure services are delivered in line with all relevant Trust policies, procedures and updates.
  • Ensure that effective communications systems are in place.
  • Meet with Senior Supervisor and Team Leader when on shift, attend all meetings as required. Ensuring that requests for information are responded to as requested. 
  • Ensure task (job) requests include the correct information and rectify if required.
  • Maintain an up to date log of all Portering Planet requests (including completion information) and allocate appropriate resource to complete during each shift.
  • Responsible for assessing operational demand against rostered resource and effective allocation of resource. Where there is a potential for demand to exceed available resource escalate to Team Leader/Senior Supervisor as appropriate
  • Support the Team Leader in supervising allocation of annual leave, return to work interviews as and when required. Receive all portering calls and requests for service allocating appropriate response.
  • Adjust and re-direct available resources to sustain services in response to unplanned absences and /or operational requests.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with the portering team at all times
  • Answer emergency portering requests and ensure that porters respond immediately

  • Qualification in customer care (NVQ 2 or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience or willingness to complete

  • IT qualification ‘EDCL’ (Computer Driving Licence) or similar
